Things to do in Dallas
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a wonderful way to spend a day. The gardens and historic buildings are beautiful. During October, the Arboretum also has an impressive display of pumpkins! The Children’s Adventure Garden often has unique, educational activities available and is a fun place to keep the little ones entertained. http://www.dallasarboretum.org/
A number of breweries have popped up in Dallas in the past several years. If you want a laid back afternoon tasting Dallas’ craft beers, visit Bishop Cider Company, Deep Ellum Brewing, or Noble Rey. You can also visit Klyde Warren Park to grab a bite at the food trucks, play outdoor games, or take a large group yoga or aerobics class.
If you are interested in a beautiful jog or walk, head to White Rock Lake in our neighborhood. There is a 9-mile trail around the lake that has great views of East Dallas and very friendly joggers and bikers. The Katy Trail is also a nice 3.5 mile trail through Uptown Dallas.
The State Fair of Texas will be open during our wedding weekend! It is a chance to watch armadillo races, get your fill of fried foods, and see a giant butter sculpture and Big Tex (our favorite 55-foot cowboy). If you go, you should head straight to get a Fletcher’s Corny Dog.
Dallas has a host of wonderful museums. The Perot Museum is a favorite and has countless fun things for children to do. The Sixth Floor Museum downtown shows the history of the assassination of JFK.
Restaurant Suggestions
Breakfast Tacos – For the best breakfast tacos in town, head to Taco Joint, right around the corner from the church.
Barbecue – There’s lots of delicious barbecue in Texas, but Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum and Lockhart Smokehouse in the Bishop Arts District are two of our favorites.
Old Fashioned – Grab a seat at the counter and enjoy a little sit and spin at the Highland Park Pharmacy, a soda shop straight out of the 50s.
